As the second largest country in the Arabian Peninsula, Republic of Yemen is a petroleum-based economy as 25 per cent of the GDP growth is met through oil exports. However, the country has other major industries flourishing to support the economic growth. While southern parts are known for large oil refineries, building materials, textiles, leather, jewellery, information technology, shipping, food processing, metal products and glass making are other industries flourishing in the northern region which account for 60 per cent of the country’s economic growth.
With more number of work force joining industries in Yemen every year, the exposure to vocational accidents and psychological illnesses to the labour community has made employers in Yemen seek the assistance of health, safety and environment (HSE) experts to make work places safer for their employees.
